Founded in 2013 on Chicago's Southside and now expanding into New Orleans, Tamarie T. & Thee Elektra Kumpany are pioneers of a transformative musical experience. Winners of the 2018 Chicago Music Award for Most Outstanding Show Band, the group has captivated audiences with their electrifying performances and signature sound, known as Exotik Funk.
Led by the visionary Tamarie T., the band draws inspiration from legends like James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic, Rick James, The Neville Brothers, Prince, Fela Kuti, & many more blending funk’s fire, soul’s groove, and avant-garde innovation. With musicians in both Chicago and New Orleans, they deliver dynamic, genre-defying performances that move the Mind, Body, and Soul. Their artistry has garnered the support of New Orleans legend Cyril Neville of The Neville Brothers, further elevating their reputation in the music world.
In May 2024, they opened for the legendary Parliament Funkadelic at the Fillmore New Orleans, and Fbe 2025 at House of Blues Chicago cementing their place as a powerhouse in live music. Whether on festival stages or in intimate venues, Tamarie T. & Thee Elektra Kumpany craft unforgettable journeys where tradition meets innovation.

Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Tamarie T. is a true original, a creative force who has always marched to the beat of his own drum. From his distinctive style—beads in his hair and vintage trench coats—to the groundbreaking music he creates, Tamarie T. is an artist who defies convention. Described by fans as "out of this world," his artistry is deeply spiritual and profoundly connected to the soul of music.
At just four years old, Tamarie’s love for music ignited as he danced and sang along to legends with his grandmother. Immersing himself in the sounds of James Brown, Little Richard, Prince, Fela Kuti, Jimi Hendrix, Parliament Funkadelic, Rick James, and many others, Tamarie dedicated countless hours to dissecting and mastering their craft. This relentless pursuit of excellence shaped him into one of the most electrifying and transcendent performers of his time—a true prodigy with a vision.
Tamarie honed his skills performing alongside renowned Chicago musicians at iconic venues like Kingston Mines, House of Blues, and the Chicago Blues Festival. Now, as the founder and visionary behind Tamarie T. & Thee Elektra Kumpany, he has forged a new path, creating a genre he calls Exotik Funk: a mesmerizing fusion of funk, soul, reggae, rock and experimental innovation.
